powers, skills, pets and equipment:
Canon abilities
Iggy is only 98% human. The other 2% is Avian. This small amount of bird DNA has made a huge impact on him.

He has wings. Large, off-white bird wings sprouting from his back, in between his shoulder blades. They’re huge, spanning over fourteen feet across. He’s tall (just over six feet) and impossibly skinny, weighing in at approximately 105 lbs soaking wet. This is because his bones are like a bird’s; they’re hollow, which makes it possible for him to actually fly. On average, he can fly around 85 miles an hour for about seven hours before needing rest. Flying takes up a lot of energy, though, so he tends to eat about three times as much as a grown man.

He’s also trained in hand-to-hand combat. Even while blind, he can hold his own in a fight fairly well. This doesn’t mean he can’t get his ass kicked. Because he has, and he will. He might be good enough to take and a regular adult, but faced with more than one, or against somebody with powers or training, he’s more than likely going to lose. Thankfully, he almost always has a trick up his sleeve to get him out of tight situations. Like bombs. Yes, this fourteen-year-old blind kid is really good at making bombs. Also cooking. He’s good at that, too.

The entire flock has extra developed senses. But Iggy has mega developed senses, bar sight, of course. He can hear better than the rest of them. Max once said that she felt safest when Iggy was on watch, because a cockroach couldn’t step within fifty feet of their camp without Iggy hearing it. He can also identify members of the flock by their footsteps, the feel of their wings, and their fingerprints.

Added abilities
In the fourth book, Iggy develops the ability to feel colors. Since he’s being taken from the end of the third book, this is an ability he’ll gain when he enters the game.

canon history: Wikia link

personality:
While Iggy is unique and strange on levels that aren’t even on the scales, he’s also a teenage boy. Just... one that happens to be 98% human and 2% bird.

Iggy spent most of his life in a dog crate, his only company being the only five people in the crates around him. Even after his life extended beyond the dog crate, his companionship didn’t extend past the Flock at all. Which means he has almost zero people skills. Granted, he can usually talk his way out of things when push comes to shove, his respect for authority is nonexistent, and he feels somewhat awkward around normal people his age. This is shown by his off-standish attitude towards the other students when he was forced to attend a real school. Part of that behavior is also just him being cautious. From a young age, he was taught to trust no one but the Flock. As it turns out, this includes not trusting the man that rescued them from the School and raised them. Since then, everybody outside his family has been viewed as an enemy. Better be safe than sorry.

Yes, these five other bird-kids are the people he considers family. He learned not too long ago that being tied by blood doesn’t necessarily mean you’re family. When his birth parents saw his genetic mutation as a way to make money, he realized that the Flock will always be his real family. These people are the people he’s loyal to. And when Iggy is loyal towards somebody, it means everything. Through thick and thin, capture and freedom, fights over who ate the last popsicle, he’ll never fail to help them the best he can. They are all he has, and never again will he willingly separate from them. He’s quick to pick on them and poke fun at them, but if anyone outside the Flock tries to do it? They’re in for a world of hurt.

Not to toot his own horn or anything, but Iggy views himself as being pretty darn smart. Other people tend to think so as well. He builds bombs, and knows which chemicals to mix with other chemicals to get the results he wants. He can make them big, he can make them small, and he can always find a way to hide them from Max. He’s also a decent cook. The best in the Flock, as a matter of fact. When they’re not playing What Can You Roast On a Stick Over An Open Fire?, Iggy is usually the one who does the cooking. He’s also skilled at picking locks, which comes in handy when breaking into suspicious buildings. It only takes being shown around a new place once for him to memorize all the turns so he can get around on his own. As long as nobody moves the furniture, he’ll be fine. For a blind guy, he’s damn good at adapting to new situations.

Iggy’s a bird-kid who just wants to have fun. He’d rather spend his time building bombs and getting into trouble. Going to the beach and flying with the hawks are also nice ideas, but annoying the rest of the Flock and pulling minor pranks is more exciting. He can easily be described as vivacious. Don’t be fooled by that, though. Half the time, he’s a fun-loving, havoc wreaking teenage boy. The other half of the time, though, he’s an impatient and pessimistic angst-ridden bird-kid. The impatience is mostly due to the fact that he’s blind, and therefore, everybody else almost always knows what’s going on before he does. He doesn’t like having to wait for people to explain what’s happening. It’s easy to look on the bad side of things, going through the things he has. When things get tough and difficult, he feels helpless and defeated. There have been many times when he has thought of giving up, of just quitting, because too many bad things have happened at once. More often than not, he feels like the world is out to get them.

Those two things, his impatience and pessimistic attitude, also come with a short temper. He gets easily annoyed by other people’s slowness and stupidity. He gets angry about being chased, cornered, and captured for no reason other than the fact that they’re different. He hates the unfairness in the world and in their lives. At times, it seems that Iggy holds an ‘eye-for-an-eye’ sort of mentality. Revenge is something he wants and is quick to get. Even if it’s little things, like using Max’s favorite alarm clock to build a bomb when she left him at home while she went out on a rescue mission, he’s sure to get it. Occasionally, he’s been known to have short bursts of violence, like throwing rocks through store windows and sweeping things off tables. Most of the time, he comes back from these fits of anger pretty quickly. The times he doesn’t, a brisk talking to and some words of encouragement usually do the trick.

Iggy is quick to come off as sarcastic and snarky. Sometimes it’s bitter sarcasm, and other times it’s light-hearted sarcasm. A lot of it centers around his blindness, which is something he doesn’t mind joking about. Rather than sore and touchy about it his whole life, he’s chosen to let it go and get over it, and sometimes, he’s even quick to remind people of it. He’s also been known to have a highly developed sense of irony, and he even considers this one of his many talents.

His first trip to Anatole started him down a road of becoming more trusting. That isn’t to say that he’s suddenly going to be welcoming people with open arms and open wings. Fourteen years of having “Trust no one but your family” hammered into your head doesn’t just go away in a few months. It’ll be an uphill battle, but at this point? He doesn’t have any choice. He’s going to have to trust someone.

why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting?
Iggy is well versed in the art of surviving. He has spent a good chunk of his life preparing for the worst, and when said training was put to the test, he handled himself well. While on the run for weeks at a time, he was able to easily keep up with the rest of the Flock, despite the fact that he’s blind. Clearly, he’s capable of adjusting to new places.

Iggy is from a world of destruction and fighting; he’s used to fighting things bigger, stronger, and faster than him. Survival is second nature for him.

That aside, he honestly just doesn’t want to go home. The first time he was here, Max told him what happened in the future, and he doesn’t like it. He doesn’t want to be apart of it. It’s hard for him to choose between going home and being with his family and staying here and not seeing (in a manner of speaking) the world end. Which is basically what his future is. They’ve worked hard to save the world just to have it end anyway. And he doesn’t want that. So he’d rather hang out in Anatole and just hope that his family members show up.

Writing Samples

Network Post Sample:
[ The Forge comes on to show Iggy. He’s not quite looking directly at the screen. Instead, he’s looking a little bit to the right. He’s also looking unusually unsure of himself. ]

So, hypothetically speaking... what do you guys think somebody should do when they lose a bomb. [ There’s a short beat of silence. ] Hypothetically, of course. Say like, this guy, who’s definitely not blonde and blind, was working on a making this really cool bomb, that he totally wasn’t going to use for bad reasons, and he... misplaced it. It was a total accident, and he’s not really sure how it happened, but it’s gone.

What’s your advice for something like that?

[ He starts to disconnect, but then hesitates. ]

If any of you happen to find a tangle of wires connected to some C4 and an alarm clock, just let me know.

Third Person Sample:
This was a dumb idea.

Iggy has spent the last hour trying to find his way home. Despite his fantastic sense of direction, he’s managed to wind up in an unfamiliar part of town. He’s walking along the streets, his fingertips trailing along the wall beside him. Being blind doesn’t usually pose a problem for him, funnily enough. But then again, he almost always has a member of the Flock with him. This time, though, he thought it’d be neat to go on a walk by himself.

Again, a stupid idea.

“Way to go, Iggy,” he grumbles to himself. “You got yourself lost, asshole.”

Not for the first time since arriving in Anatole, he toys with the idea of getting a seeing eye dog. It’s not something he’s entirely thrilled about. He doesn’t like having to rely on outside resources, on people other than the Flock. Even if it is just a dog, he knows he’ll feel weak if he has to use one to get around.

Sometime, he’ll get Max to lead him all around town. They’ll take a day to go everywhere, so Iggy can memorize the streets, all the turns and curves. It should only take one go. As long as the buildings don’t decide to move, he’ll be just fine.

Just as he’s about to pull out his Forge and reluctantly call for help, his fingers touch something familiar-- the iron fence surrounding the church. He pauses, cocking his head to the side and listening close. The direction the voices and footsteps are coming from lets him know that he’s only four blocks south of his apartment.

A smile tugs on his lips. He doesn’t need a seeing eye dog. He can cope just fine. It might take a while, and he might end up going in circles a couple of times, but he definitely doesn’t need outside help. Never has, never will.

Anything else? Just that this is a re-app and his old app has been tweaked to reflect that. c:
